After suffering a stroke in 2005, life changed dramatically for previously independent Lee. He was left a wheelchair user, unable to use his left side, fully dependent on carers and requiring a hoist for transfers. Lee approached Physio Matters in 2010 and has since engaged in a range of activities as part of his rehab.
Lee has lived a varied life including time working in the circus as a clown and lion-handler! We decided to use a more dynamic and exciting approach to rehabilitation to increase his engagement. Working with our physios and Disability Snow Sports UK (DSUK), Lee began adaptive snowsports which he really enjoyed. Through using the sit ski, he improved his mobility, core strength and exercise tolerance. Lee worked very hard in his therapy sessions and can now walk around his adapted bungalow with a walking stick as well as walking short distances outside. He is looking forward to no longer needing his wheelchair indoors and eventually donating it to people less fortunate than himself.
